Celtic Speak out against Green Brigade

9 Nov

Following the events of the weekend, detailed in yesterdays blog, Celtic have released a statement;

“The actions of this small minority have no place at Celtic Park and, clearly, we apologise for any offence caused.”

A spokesman later added: “The club is currently carrying out an investigation into this matter. When it is concluded, it is the club’s intention to ban those identified as responsible from Celtic Park.

“Celtic fans have rightly earned a magnificent reputation for their positive behaviour and backing of the club.

“It is extremely disappointing that the actions of a small minority have embarrassed Celtic and tarnished the club in this way.”

It’s encouraging to see the Club taking action against theses fans, and I hope it is carried out as suggested by Celtic. With any luck they’ll be banned from every other SPL ground too, oh well I’m allowed to dream.

    Technically, those responsible should not be allowed back at Celtic Park as Celtic Football club prohibit political demonstrations at the ground. However, I would hope that the club are lenient as The Green Brigade provide the club with magnificent backing and are responsible for the a lot of the atmosphere generated at Celtic Park. Considering the backing they give the team, I think the club should in turn back the Green Brigade.

    The fact that the bigoted Neil Lennon commented, positively, on them is support enough, no?

    Yes it is positive that the manager has backed the fans, but it is not Neil Lennon who will decide their fate.

    And just because Lennon backed them does not make him bigoted, Walter Smith backed Rangers fans despite their antics in Spain and Manchester and the media have never had anything but praise for him.
